Cherokee Ranch & Castle Wedding | Ally & Kyle

Cherokee Ranch & Castle is one of my absolute favorite wedding venues in Colorado! With its sweeping views, historic architecture, and timeless elegance, it feels like a European estate tucked into the Colorado landscape. When Ally and Kyle chose this venue for their August wedding, I knew it would be something truly special. As this was my first time photographing at this castle, I can say it exceeded my expectations.

Ally and Kyle originally found me years ago as guests at a wedding I photographed. From the very beginning, working with them felt so meaningful. We started their journey together with an engagement session in Steamboat Springs, where Ally grew up. That location held so much personal significance for her, and the session was both stunning and sentimental. (You can explore a Steamboat Springs wedding here.)

Their wedding day began in Denver at Ally and Kyle’s home, where Ally got ready alongside her mom and bridesmaids. The house was filled with beautiful natural light. A dream for photography! All the ladies were getting their makeup done by Kim J Beauty and hair by Hairapy Effect. The morning felt calm, joyful, and intimate. Just down the road, Kyle spent time at his parents’ home with his groomsmen and family, soaking in those quieter moments before the day unfolded.

Once everyone arrived at Cherokee Ranch and Castle, the atmosphere shifted into something truly magical. This historic Colorado venue is rich with character and story, from its stone walls to its dramatic interiors. Ally slipped into her dress in the bridal suite, which is absolutely stunning — complete with a historic bed, layered rugs, hardwood floors, and elegant drapery that feels straight out of another era. We photographed Ally with her bridesmaids before tucking them away and capturing portraits of the guys.

Ally and Kyle chose not to do a first look, which was especially meaningful to Kyle. He had always imagined seeing Ally for the first time as she walked down the aisle, and that moment was incredibly emotional. Their ceremony was filled with laughter, tears, and heartfelt connection; not just from the couple, but from nearly every guest in attendance.

After they were pronounced married, Ally and Kyle rang the ceremonial bell! This is a cherished Cherokee Ranch & Castle wedding tradition and one of my favorite images from the entire day. Shortly after, we signed the marriage license, and in a moment I’ll never forget, they asked me to sign as one of their witnesses. It was the first time I’d ever been asked, and it meant so much to me to be included in such an important moment.

As the rain clouds cleared, golden light poured through the sky, and we headed up to the roof of the castle for portraits while guests enjoyed cocktail hour. The rooftop images, with dramatic clouds and sweeping views, are some of my favorites from the day. Later, just before guests were seated, we slipped away to a hidden gem down the road: a romantic Italian-style stone doorway I’d been eyeing for years. The photos we created there felt cinematic, romantic, and perfectly suited to the castle setting.

The reception unfolded under a beautifully styled tent with gold and white details, glowing candlelight, and intentional white-and-green florals that elevated the entire space. The night continued with a joyful grand entrance, a heartfelt first dance (they were nervous — and absolutely nailed it), nonstop dancing, Kyle’s signature lemonade, bar napkins with sweet tributes to their dogs, and a show-stopping banana bread made by a close friend. I couldn’t try the bread since I’m gluten free but Ally and Kyle were SO thoughtful and got me some gluten free banana bread from a local vendor in Colorado. My gosh did they think of everything!

Photographing Ally and Kyle’s Cherokee Ranch & Castle wedding was such an honor. Their day was elegant, emotional, and full of personality. A true reflection of who they are together.
